- I can gather information from various sources
HOWLs Target:
- I participate in my classroom and community.
Agenda
- Warm-up: PRETTY PICTURE WEDNESDAY (2min)
- Snow tubing field trip
- Independent study
- Listen to a podcast (or 2 or 3) today. Think about what made it interesting (or not). Was the speaker a good speaker? If you could talk to them would you give them any suggestions? At the end of this class take time to fill out this exit ticket.
- Some Ideas of Podcasts to listen to:
- Surprisingly Awesome- comes highly recommended.
- Math Mutation- 3-7 minute podcasts for people of all ages about "weird and/or interesting" math. (I haven't listened yet)
- Grammar Girl, Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing- (It's interesting I swear!)
- How Stuff Works- A whole family of different podcasts.
- Nerdette- A safe space for nerding out (I haven't listened yet)
- Ted Talks- Good wide variety of topics.
- The Moth- Listener stories
- Radio Lab- Usually very interesting science stories
- This American Life- I love this one, but might be more interesting for adults.
- Serial- investigative journalism (Season 1 is about murder case I mentioned in class)
- Brains On- science podcast
- Lore- A friend recommended this to me, he said it might be a little scary but that he would have loved it in 8th grade. It's about "dark historical tales" that impact current myths.
- Link to an article with pros and cons of podcasts, and a list of 20 podcasts appropriate for kids.
- One of the cons of podcasts is that they often have a lot of commercials. Your podcast will be commercial free (or not?). You will be writing a podcast for your next research project!
Homework:
- Velocity, distance-time, and Newtons Laws assessments: Class A - Thursday, Class BCD - Friday
